We live in a small village which is 130 km. away from the city center.Malatya which is famous for apricot trees takes place in the east of Turkey. We have been studying English for one year. We do love studying English. We did wonderful projects with Miss Hope's Class last year. This is our first year with the monster project. Attending such a joyful project is very exciting for us. We want to design the head of the monster.

Kenya

Mr. Maina's Students

We are a hybrid community based schools known as Value Added Academy. We are based in a rural part of Kenya called Kikuyu, but not far from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, about 21km. The school was  started in 2001 by Charles Maina and 5 other colleagues, and runs from Nursery to 4th Grade, and the number continues to increase. We hope to add Grade 5 next year and so on. The students range from 3-5 year for nursery and 6-11 for the Grades. They come from poor backgrounds; orphans and vulnerable children; victims of internal displacement; as well as children from well up families on the other hand. It has both boys and girls. We learn English, Mathematics and other subjects. We do not have a website of our own but a wikispace, courtesy of Terry's recent assistance. We hope you all understand that Africa lies quite a bit behind in technology, but we shall try as much as possible to keep abreast with activities amongst us all. Our Motto is: Every child deserves the best. This is our first time to participate in the Monster Project and its quite exciting. We shall design finger and rings. You can always do a mail to us.

We help to maintain the website in our spare time with our teacher, so there are still a few gaps, but we are working on them ! Class 5 are working very hard this year at developing links with lots of schools from around the globe and we are setting up e-mail links with children from America, Europe, Africa and Asia. We are a fourth grade class of fifteen students ready for adventure and to learn new things at Lafayette Regional School. Our class comes from the towns of Franconia, Sugar Hill, and Easton. These towns are located in northern part of New Hampshire in the United States of America. Outside our classroom windows we can see Mt. Lafayette and Cannon Mtn. which are part of the White Mountains. During the winter most of our students go skiing on Cannon. The school days are filled with lots of challenging games, hard math problems, and exploring books. In our classroom each student has their own laptop to help them with their work and make animations. Throughout the year we will explore our state on field trips such as visiting the Concord State House. Join us in our learning by visiting our web pages and feel free to drop a line or two. New York

Hi Monster Makers,
We are 39 first graders from Elmwood Franklin School in Buffalo, New York. There are two first grades in our school....Ms. Gardon and Mrs. Jurnack's classes. There are 363 students in our school and we are located near the Buffalo Zoo in North Buffalo. We have gym everyday and a great playground. We work hard, but play hard too. Our teachers have been making monsters for many years. We are excited to be designing the wings!
Your Friends,
Ms. Gardon and Mrs. Jurnack's First Graders

About Buffalo: Here are some things you might find interesting about Buffalo, New York. We are located on Lake Erie. The mighty Niagara River heads to Niagara Falls from Buffalo. It is only about a 35 minute drive to the beautiful Falls. We are also very close to Fort Erie, Canada. Many people visit Canada often by traveling over The Peace Bridge. We have a beautiful Art Gallery, The Albright Knox Art Gallery, a great zoo, a science museum, historical museum and botanical gardens. Buffalo has many theatres and even a children's theatre. Most people know that Buffalo is famous for chicken wings, but pizza and all kinds of ethnic foods and festivals make this area a delicious, (sometimes fattening) place to live. People in Buffalo love sports. We have the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and a minor league baseball team, the Buffalo Bisons. There are many universities and colleges in Buffalo; the University of Buffalo is probably the best known. There is lots of music in Buffalo. We have an excellent orchestra and lots of little music clubs. Buffalo has lovely architecture. It was a wealthy city in the late 1800's and early 1900's. We have a Frank Lloyd Wright house, which is a popular destination for tourists. On the down side, many factories have closed in Buffalo and the population has decreased. Finding good jobs can be challenging. Buffalo has a reputation for lots of snow and we do get the occasional HUGE snowstorm, but for the most part the snow belt is south of the city where there are ski resorts. We have four beautiful seasons, although I must admit that winter can be awfully long. I hope this helps you and your students know our town a little better. It really is a great place to live...it's a small big town. We have all been very saddened by the death of our local cheerleader, national newscaster....Tim Russert. He was truly one of our finest.
Sincerely, Rose

Mrs. Wickham's 4th Grade

Greetings from Mid Michigan! We are in the 4th grade. We live in
Laingsburg, Michigan which is close to Lansing, Michigan's capitol.
We live in a small town and our mascot is a wolf. We are the only
state that touches four of the five Great Lakes. There is lots of
land in our little town, and we are building the right eye for the
monster project. If you are familiar with Mr. Meyer's class from last
year's monster project, he is in our school, Laingsburg Elementary
School, and participating too. Our teacher, Mrs. Wickham, has been
doing the project for 2 years, for us the kids, it is our first year.

Mr. Meyer's 5th grade class in Laingsburg, MI currently has 32 students.  Laingsburg is in the middle of Michigan, northeast of our state's capital city, Lansing.  We are a mix of country and city.  Our students are eager to participate in the Monster project, as our monster from last year was a huge hit in the hallway, and every kid loves Halloween!  We play the game of survivor, so this cooperative learning exercise is right up our alley!  We will be working with Mrs. Wickham's 4th grade class on mini-teams with project managers and delegated duties.
